Yes I realize it is way into January and that I haven't blogged in 2 months. First of all, I apologize for that. The holidays take a toll on our routine and it gets really nutty around here. However, along with trying to extend my runs from 3 miles to 4 in 2011 and kicking the yelling habit once and for all, I am hoping to write more regularly as a resolution for 2011.
Kicking the yelling habit is proving the most challenging of the three. My kids are super head strong and Jack is in a stubborn stage right now. We are potty training right now. The kicker is he is able to do it. He showed incredible progress in the first three days and woke up on day 4 and decided since he had control over it, he was going to fight about it.
I don't fight with my kids over potty training. I learned that with the first two. It does nothing but make the process worse. However, that is easier said than done when a toddler decides to act like a little butt about it.
Right now the thing is he wants to hold it forever, meaning he doesn't want to stop whatever he wants to do in order to urinate and it is maddening. Take today for example. Cristin woke up throwing up and hacking up a lung. So she was out of school, but I took Jimmy because he appeared completely okay. Well, turns out he wasn't okay and he became ill at school. I was preoccupied with getting to school ASAP and getting Jimmy before he started throwing up, and dealing with a crying, very ill child who didn't want to get into the car. I should have put him on the toilet before and I didn't.
I noticed as we were getting out of the car when we got home that Jack's pants were moist... he clearly was going to have a full out accident shortly. So, I rushed him to the door only to discover I had picked up both sets of van keys instead of a set of house keys and a set of van keys. I have emergency house keys in my van for moments like this, but running back to the van and getting them was eating up valuable time. So I get us all in and Jimmy started crying about something. By the time I got that under control, I realized that Jack had not gone to the potty like I told him, but was instead standing in my living room, chugging out of a bottle of powerade while simultanionly having a huge accident.
So no I didn't yell at him. But I really, really, really, really wanted to. This is going to be a hard resolution to keep.
Potty training makes me BATTY. I don't do well with the whole toddler phase anyway, but once they have shown they can do it, and then decide not to, it just stomps on every nerve I have!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the no yelling thing. If you figure out how to quash that once and for all, please share for those of us who have tried for years and given up, LOL!!
